Jo Roy is a filmmaker, choreographer, and transmedia artist, pioneering new forms
of cinematic expression through the fusion of dance, storytelling, and innovation.

A systems thinker at heart, her projects are guided by a simple framework:

Is it possible? Is it necessary? Is it beautiful?

Roy’s work spans film, art, animation, technology, advertising, and music video, earning top honors across each sector. Her first animated film, commissioned by the National Film Board of Canada, achieved the rare trifecta of official selections at Annecy Festival, SIGGRAPH, and Ars Electronica, despite being so radically unusual that it does not qualify as animation under Academy rules. The film, now touring globally with Ars Electronica’s Animation Festival on Tour until 2027 and exhibited in museums and embassies worldwide, has also been projected onto historic buildings in large-scale installations.

In the commercial world, Jo’s direction has generated over 100 million views, broken a Billboard record, and won numerous multiple international awards, including two Cannes Lions. Her branded work has been spotlighted by leading industry publications such as Ad Age, shots, and Little Black Book. Roy’s films and videos also been featured by countless
cultural platforms worldwide, including NOWNESS, Vimeo Staff Picks, the British Council, CNN Create, Dance Magazine, and NPR. She continues to shape the future of storytelling
by alchemizing choreography, film craft, and technology into groundbreaking cinematic experiences.
